Frame of my Mind

Kyoto Garden 26/09/09

Today me and Justin took a trip to the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park, London. As if you couldn’t tell from it’s name, it’s a Japanese style garden created by gardeners from Kyoto – where the Japanese style garden is particularly abundant. It features neatly cut grass (which you weren’t allowed to walk on, though a few sunbathers decided not to abide by this rule) and a pathway surrounding a large pond housing various types of koi carp – very magnificent. At one end of the garden there is a waterfall (quite large, considering) which you walk by as you pass over a bridge. A place for quiet contemplation, very peaceful. We had taken a picnic lunch of salad sandwiches, sausage rolls, fruit and strawberry laces which we ate on a neighbouring patch of grass behind Holland House. It’s been a really lovely and warm day.

On the subject of Japanese(-style) I have registered for the JLPT level 3 this December. Provided that the capacity hasn’t been reached I’m taking the exam and can’t un-register so I can’t really afford (£70) to fail. I officially have two months to cram as much kanji, vocabulary and grammar as I can. And on the subject of exams, I finally received my degree certificate. Now I just need a frame so it can join the rest of my academic achivements on the wall (me? modest? no)….

Ah, that reminds me of the Chinese Gardens in Sydney that I’m currently doing an group project on. From the photo, and how you describe it, Japanese gardens sound a lot like the Chinese ones minus the manicured lawns. Certainly a very peaceful place to be.

Congrats on the degree cert :)
Wow, I wasn’t even aware that there was a Japanese styled Kyoto Garden in London… I better ask my friends that went there this year whether they checked it out or not!

Congratulations on the degree certificate! I’ll be sure frame up mine as well when I graduate.

The Japanese garden looks lovely. We have a Chinese & Japanese garden in Singapore as well. It’s brightly lit with lanterns during the Mid-Autumn Festival. We don’t have any waterfalls there though.

Good luck with the exam! Gambatte! :)

Congratulations on getting your degree certificate! I’ve never actually framed mine because they put it in this really nice…thing. I’m not even sure what it’s called lol. But it’s displayed nicely in the living room.

That garden is beautiful! I believe there’s something like that here at one of the parks. It may be at the botanical gardens now that I think of it. I’m dying to go, but I never seem to have the time!

Good luck with your exam! Study hard and I’m sure you’ll pass! =)
